Are you young, motivated and interested in seeing what a job in the fire service entails? Come join us as a cadet.
The goal of the Lockport Township Fire Protection District Cadet program is to provide an opportunity for Fire District residents to get involved in the Fire service; a profession with a long and honorable tradition of compassionate service to the community.
Requirements for a Fire Cadet are:
• Must be between the ages of 16-21 years old.
• Must have successfully completed the application process, which includes a medical exam (which will submitted annually), background check and interview with Fire District Administration.
• Must be at least one of the following:
o Resident of Lockport Township Fire Protection District
o An immediate family member of an active or retired Lockport Township Fire District employee.
o Attend classes at LTHS or Wilco Career Center.
• Must successfully complete a 4-week orientation academy.
• Must be enrolled in school and maintain a B average (3.0 gpa).
If accepted into the program, the Cadets will be required to participate in a 4-week orientation academy. The academy will meet once a week on Saturday for 4 hours, where cadets will get a general over-view of the fire service and will learn the operations of the Lockport Township Fire Protection District. The schedule for the academy is located at the end of the application.
After successful completion, Cadets will be required to attend monthly drills and can participate in ride time where they will respond with Fire Companies to emergency calls on an observation basis. As cadets prove themselves, the Fire District would consider sponsoring Cadets through Emergency Medical Technician & Paramedic School and a through a Fire Academy.
